今週からすっかりアウターが着れる気温になりました。
いよいよ今日はハロウィンですね 😈
日本でも年々、取り上げられるようになってきた気がします。
正式には今年のハロウィンは月曜日だけど、先週末のハロウィンらしいイベントで大盛り上がりでした♡
さて、本日は最近参加したHPCにおけるテンションの上がるイベント情報をご紹介致します。
Rescale社大手町の真新しいお洒落支店で、HPC (高性能コンピューティング【英】high performance computing)イベントに参加しました。7月よりRescale Japanが始動し、日本での本格的な展開を行なっています。こちら参加者だけで50名以上の方が来場されました。こんなに興味を持っている人がいるなら将来のイベント会場はもっと広くてもいいかもしれません！
I recently attended an HPC (high performance computing) event at Rescale’s classy, new office in Otemachi. This is Rescale Japan’s first, real unveiling since they opened in July. If the audience turnout is anything to go by, they might need a bigger venue in the future!


私は最前列の椅子に腰かけました。早速Rescale, Inc.CEO Joris Poortさんからのオープニングでスタートしました。そこで、観客向けに英語を日本語に通訳をしてみました。やっぱり、同時通訳でなくてもJorisがしゃべった後に、日本語に通訳することは立派な挑戦でした！Jorisさんは製品の最新情報や将来リリースする予定を紹介されました。デベロッパー向けの新しいプラットフォームに関しての意気込みをお話しされました。企業からは、顧客対応を強化したり、新たな地域にもグローバルに展開するの可能性を説明してくださいました。
After finding a seat up front, Rescale, Inc. CEO Joris Poort began his talk which I attempted to (poorly) interpret. While it wasn’t simultaneous translation, it still presented a credible challenge! He announced company updates and future releases and animatedly explained about new platforms for developers. He also explained about the creation of more opportunities for businesses to connect with customers and the possibility of new locations.

長尾太介さんからは、クラウドによってHPCハードウェアでDeep Learningについて深くお話しいただきました。デモで利用したCaffeとRescale社のグローバルチームメンバーズおよびニューフェースの皆さんの紹介もしてくださいました。
Daisuke Nagao spoke in depth (pun intended) about Deep Learning on the cloud with HPC hardware. He introduced the global team – which had some new faces – and we watched a demo of Caffe on Rescale.
LTはクラウドHPCプラットフォーム関連ベンダーがご登壇されました。彼らは大規模計算機システムと可視化システムにおける事例を紹介しました。
The LT’s were given by various cloud HPC platform related vendors. The examples they gave were based on the utilization of large-scale computer systems and visualization systems

小川さんによるAWSでHPCの実演でした。「時間ないっす！」という言葉から講演はスタートしました。デモを行い、あっという間に終わってしまいました。
Mr. Ogawa began his LT by stating ‘there’s no time!’ He flew through his presentation and gave a live demo.

田中さんは、Microsoft HPC Pack と、Azure のコンピューティングおよびインフラサービスについての歴史や採用メリットをお話いただきました。
Microsoft HPC manager Hiroshi Tanaka showed us the history and advantages of Microsoft HPC Pack and Azure compute and infrastructure services.

安田さんはSoftLayerではGPUがベアメタルで特定のサーバー種別を選択できることがあると解説しました。
Tomoari Yasuda’s LT featured IBM’s new hourly bare-metal GPU capability on SoftLayer.

LTの最後は、井﨑さんからはNVIDIAのP100 GPUのスケーラビリティの改善が行われていますと発表がありました。
The last speaker, Takeshi Izaki, showed us how NVIDIA improved upon the P100 GPU scalability.


そこで、Rescale Night at Tokyo #1は無事に閉会しました！ピザとビールのまわりで、講師の方と参加者が気軽に喋りました。こんな小さなイベントでも、おかげで初耳情報がいっぱいあって、勉強になった気がします。初心者さんのためHPCによって大規模計算機システムと可視化などのテクノロジーについて実際とてもやさしかったです。
After the last LT of Rescale Night at Tokyo #1 wrapped up, everyone chatted lightly around the pizza and beer. All in all it was an amazing evening filled with trends in research and development about a topic I did not know existed. Even for a total newbie like myself this event was a great introduction to HPC supported large-scale visualization technology. Keep an eye out for future events from this company; it’s worth attending for the comprehensive array of speakers that attend.
